ULTRASOUND BIOPSY INSTRUCTIONS
- If you have been scheduled for an ultrasound biopsy, please remember to come to our office and pick up the "prep kit". It contains an antibotic that you will be directed to take 3 hours prior to your appointment.
- It is imperative that you use the enema as directed (ie.,2 hours prior to the appointment). Your appointment will be rescheduled if you do not use the enema.
- Lastly, you have been directed not take any asprin or any blood thinning agents 5 days prior to the appointment. Please review the medication list that was provided with your written instructions to ensure that you have not taken any of these medications within the 5 day time frame. These medications could cause excessive rectal bleeding after the procedure.
VASECTOMY INFOMRATION AND PRE AND POST OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS
Our office performs both conventional and No-Scalpel vasectomies. We are very experienced in performing both types.
PRE OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS:
- Prior to coming to the office for the vasectomy, shave the entire scrotum and shower to remove the loose hair.
- There is no need to fast prior to the procedure, although it is a good idea to abstain from alcohol for 6 hours prior to the procedure. The procedure is done using a local anesthetic and mild sedation.
- If you elect to have sedation, please bring someone to drive you home.
- It is a good idea to wear a snug pair of briefs or an athletic supporter. Continue to wear this support until the swelling has subsided.
- We understand that circumstances can occur which necessitate canceling your appointment. We also understand that patients change their minds, however if a cancelation occurs less than 24 hours before scheduled vasectomy, a fee of $100 will be charged.
POST OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS
- An ice pack should be placed on the scrotum for 6-12 hours. The ice should be applied as soon as you arrive at your home.

- You may shower the day following your vasectomy. You may apply soapy water to the scrotum. Rinse and dry by blotting the skin, not rubbing.
- All stitches will dissolve by themselves. They do not require removal.
- If a stitch comes away prematurely, the incision may open and a small discharge from the wound or a slight amount of bleeding may develop. Continue to bathe and place a small gauze sponge inside the scrotal supporter.
- Tylenol, ibuprofen or asprin may be taken at 3-4 hour intervals for pain relief. If there is an unusual amount of pain, swelling of the scrotum or continued bleeding, please call our office.

- Please submit a semen sample approximately 10 weeks after the procedure. Please call our office prior to bringing in the sample to verify that a doctor will be available to check the sample.
