Dr. Coons graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1998 with a Bachelor in Science degree. He earned a Masters in Medical Science prior to attending Indiana University School of Medicine where he was awarded induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He is a member of the American Urological Association and completed his urologic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University where he was trained extensively in robotic, laparoscopic, and reconstructive procedures. He performed the first single incision laparoscopic nephrectomy in Southern Colorado and has published extensively on kidney cancer and sacral neuromodulation, an advanced treatment for refractory urinary urgency/frequency. Ben and his wife, Tracy, have two children. Together, they enjoy hiking, skiing, and Notre Dame football.
