Urological Associates was started over fifty years ago by Colorado Springs native, Dr. Oliver Campbell. Upon the completion of his urological residency, Dr. Campbell decided to return to Colorado Springs where his father was a practicing general surgeon. He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University and finished his urology training at the University of Colorado. He began practice in 1969 and was joined after a few years by Dr. James Clark, a graduate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
The 1980s brought the addition of 3 new surgeons to handle the ever-increasing demand for urology care. In 1983 Dr. Patrick Faricy, a Colorado native, joined the group after serving in the Air Force and practicing for a short time in Wyoming. Dr. Faricy has been a tremendous leader in this community ever since and in 2012 left the practice to become the Chief Medical Officer at Memorial Health System. Dr. Kent Thayer, a Navy Vietnam era veteran, joined the group in 1986 when Dr. Clark moved to Utah. Dr. Thayer trained with Dr. Faricy at the University of Colorado and then practiced with him in Wyoming before coming to Colorado Springs. Dr. Elliot Cohn was the final addition in the 1980’s upon the retirement of Dr. Campbell (the founder) in 1989. He was fresh out of medical training at the University of Kansas.
In the 1990s Urological Associates grew from a 3-physician practice to a 6-physician practice with the addition of Drs. Craig Carris, Michael Crissey, and Jeffrey Ferguson. In the late 1970’s Drs. Carris and Crissey joined forces with Dr. Bob Beadles (the community’s first trained urologist) in Colorado Springs. In the mid 1990’s Dr. Carris and Dr. Crissey decided to merge their medical practice with Urological Associates and benefit from being partners in a larger group. Dr. Carris grew up in Colorado Springs, where his father was a physician and his mother was active in the philanthropic community. He received his medical training at the University of Colorado. Dr. Crissey graduated high school in Colorado and completed his medical degree in St.Louis and his urology residency at Harvard. He went on to serve in the Army Medical Corp in 1975 and was a practicing urologist for over 20 years before joining forces with Urological Associates. Dr. Ferguson joined the group in 1996 and rounded out the 6 physicians at Urological Associates. Dr. Ferguson received his urology training at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.
The 21st century saw Urological Associates P.C. grow into a 9-physician group by attracting talented and well-trained physicians to handle the increased demand for urology care. Drs. Eric Derksen, Benjamin Coons, James Thomasch and most recently, Brett Jepson continued the tradition of bringing state of the art techniques to the practice. They all obtained their medical degrees and performed their residencies in some of top educational institutions in the country.
In 2004, Stacen Jones, MBA, MSG (Ret) was hired as the Practice Administrator by Urological Associates. Mr. Jones was hired to evaluate and improve the logistics of providing care to patients in an environment made more difficult by insurance companies, bureaucratic policies and governmental dictates. Joanna Jones, NP-C joined the group to improve patient access to our practice.
The practice has been donating medical service to Peak Vista clinics for over 20 years. Each individual physician assists in caring for the medically indigent in the Colorado Springs community through this collaboration. In addition, the physicians and staff of Urological Associates have served on numerous hospitals, professional, and community boards and committees.

Dr Ferguson and his staff are courteous and very caring. So empathetic!
Waiting time was minimal. Dr. Derksen spent time asking questions and then explaining the options I had for the procedure to remove the small lesions that were found and his recommendation. Procedure went smoothly with no problems. Excellent visit.
